ASI SUPPORTS RAPID CITY COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS

Advanced Services, Inc. (ASI), a wholly-owned subsidiary of GE Appliances located in Rapid City, is a contact center operation hub for the company’s consumers and customers.

As part of GE Appliances commitment to the local communities where its employees live and work, the ASI leadership team collaborated with local nonprofits in Rapid City to determine community needs.

As a result, more than 7,200 donations of items including face masks, face shields, cleaning supplies, gloves and hand sanitizer bottles were delivered to the following organizations: Big Brothers Big Sisters, Care Campus, Rural America Initiatives, The Club for Boys, United Way of the Black Hills, Wellfully and YMCA of Rapid City.

"As part of the GE Appliances family, we're honored to help support local community agencies in Rapid City with needed supplies," said Burnell Lutz, center manager for ASI. "We have a wonderful relationship with our community leaders and we hope that these donations will benefit those organizations working to keep our community strong."

Through its community engagement efforts, GE Appliances supports community partners by connecting people with the resources they need to be successful and helping strengthen equity, health and education in local communities.

Over the past year, the company has provided more than 300,000 units of PPE and other supplies to healthcare facilities, nonprofits and government agencies.

Additionally, GE Appliances provided $2 million in grants and product donations to more than 100 nonprofits and donated nearly $1 million worth of appliances to first responders and healthcare workers across the U.S. working to keep people safe during the fight against COVID-19.

OPPORTUNITYU DRIVES CAREER GROWTH FOR CALL CENTER AGENTS

If you had asked busy mom-of-three and Rapid City employee Erin Albrecht months ago how she felt about career at ASI, she would have said say she was content, but searching for the right way to move up after a few attempts to do so failed.

Over 1,100 miles away in Memphis, Tennessee, Michelle Williams was also ruminating about the last six years as a call center agent in effort to figure out the next steps in her career.

Both ladies sought more and, thanks to the ASI team's penchant for recognizing their team's needs and creating possibilities, leadership developed Opportunity U. Opportunity U is a company-sponsored, homegrown training series developed by employees for employees who want to advance their career, increase their leadership knowledge and improve their business skills.

"This is a first-of-its-kind program created specifically for our call center agents," says Cheryl Land, Parts Team Leader. "It was an immense learning experience for us all, both the leadership team, who dedicated hours developing engaging content for our 13 different courses, as well as our agents who made the conscious choice to create possibilities for their own career by participating."

The application process, which includes background and performance review, an entry essay, strict attendance policy and business leader approval, and 33+ hours of coursework over 26+ weeks makes this comprehensive program rigorous, but worthwhile.

"Participating in the program was very eye opening for me," says Erin, who has now been promoted to Team Leader. "I have always been the type of person who does not talk a lot or even really thought that other agents and/or leaders knew who I was. Going through this program made me realize the type of impact I did have on agents and leaders, and built my confidence, particularly when it came to interviewing."

And despite its 76 graduates from the Memphis and Rapid City sites, this program isn't slowing down. The fourth class kicking off in the fall. "The program was the perfect opportunity for me to build my leadership and other professional skills, while networking with other employees and leadership staff," says Michelle. "In the last 2-3 years since my graduation, I have had the opportunity to explore more of my professional interests and know what I want out of my career. Since April, I now hold a position in Digital Learning Technology with GE Appliances. If you are considering Opportunity U, consider this: What's the BEST that can happen?"
